Swiss Geophysical Commission

The Swiss Geophysical Commission (SGPK - Schweizerische Geophysikalische Kommission) is a commission of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (scnat), within its Platform Geosciences

The SGPK was initiated in 1972 by Stephan Mueller, at the time professor of Geophysics at ETH Zurich, and was founded as a commission of the Schweizerische Naturforschende Gesellschaft. Its duties were further set out in the governmental decree of 5 February 1975, with the main task to coordinate the geophysical surveying of Switzerland. The activities of the SGPK are performed under a contract between the commission and the Federal Office of Topography (swisstopo).

The SGPK has 10 to 20 members who are geo-scientists or engineers from Swiss universities, private companies and/or public institutions.
